YouTube to remove Daily Show clips?

It appears YouTube has removed some video of the Daily Show, Colbert Report and South Park. Yet I’ve searched for and found some clips. An unconfirmed rumor is flying around that the lawyers for Comedy Central have asked YouTube to remove video citing the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA).

If this is true and all the fun Daily Show clips go away from the Internet then Comedy Central has taken a SERIOUS cool points hit. Meaning if they can’t control their lawyers and stay hip then they are several steps closer to loosing their grip on a big target demographic. High School and College age kids.

I’m not complaining because I might (have?) lost access to free stuff. No. I’m just amazed at how a company – Comedy Central – could seemingly “get it” and then “not get it”. Their hipness has made them millions no doubt. Now that they got theirs they’ll take their toys and go home?
